John V. Lee
John started his firm in 1993, establishing it as the premier landlord-tenant eviction firm in Southwest Alabama, specializing in eviction legal services.
John graduated with honors from The Florida State University, holding both Bachelor and Master’s Degrees. He then attended Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law, where he contributed to the Cumberland Law Review and earned his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1978.
Following his graduation, John served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Richard Holmes at the Alabama Civil Court of Appeals. After completing his clerkship, he joined Sirote & Permutt, PC, one of the largest law firms in Alabama, becoming a stockholder member in 1983.
In 2005 and 2006, John played a significant role in drafting Alabama’s Uniform Residential Landlord Tenant Act (URLTA), which established the current eviction law effective January 1, 2007. He has also been involved in drafting subsequent amendments to landlord-tenant law.
As an expert in this field, John frequently speaks at The Alabama Judicial College (Judge’s Forum), The Alabama State Bar, and The Mobile Bar Association, focusing on landlord-tenant eviction law and continuing legal education. Additionally, he serves as the Delegate to the Alabama Apartment Association.
Taft Hughes
Taft Hughes is a lifelong resident of the Mobile and Baldwin County area. He began his education at Spring Hill College before earning a degree in Business Administration from Auburn University. He then attended Vermont Law School, where he earned both his Juris Doctor and a Master’s degree in Environmental Law and Policy. After law school, Taft returned home to Mobile to practice law and raise his family.
Taft is admitted to practice in all Alabama state courts and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. His practice focuses primarily on landlord-tenant law, representing property owners and management companies throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties. He regularly represents clients in eviction, lease enforcement, and other landlord-tenant matters and advises clients on compliance with Alabama landlord-tenant law.
Taft is also active in the local legal and housing communities. He is involved with the Mobile Bar Association, Baldwin County Bar Association, Mobile Lions Club, and Alabama Apartment Association. He serves as a board member and legal counsel for the Mobile Bay Area Apartment Association and as legal counsel for the Alabama Apartment Association. In 2022, he was voted “Best of the Bay” by the Mobile Bay Area Apartment Association.
Taylor Acton
Taylor brings more than 20 years of experience with the firm and serves as Senior Paralegal and Operations Director, overseeing the firm's legal operations and ensuring the efficient delivery of client-focused legal services.
She concentrates on Alabama landlord-tenant law, with extensive experience in residential and commercial eviction matters. Taylor works closely with property owners, management companies, and attorneys and regularly coordinates with the executive and judicial branches of government on legal and procedural matters affecting the firm's practice.
Taylor is committed to advancing education and advocacy within Alabama's rental housing industry. She develops legal education programs in partnership with the Mobile Bay Area Apartment Association to help attorneys and housing professionals stay informed on Alabama landlord-tenant law. She serves on the Board of Directors for both the Mobile Bay Area Apartment Association and the Alabama Apartment Association and is currently participating in the National Apartment Association's Advocacy Academy, further strengthening her leadership in legislative advocacy and public policy. Taylor is dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the firm's clients and supporting Alabama's multifamily housing industry.
Bethany Madison
Bethany’s firm duties include preparing and filing new suits, communicating with clients and defendants, managing the Mobile and Baldwin County trial dockets, and monitoring the firm’s file tracking system for eviction legal services.
During her college years, Bethany worked with the firm as a receptionist and legal assistant. She is now employed full-time as a paralegal, particularly focused on supporting Alabama eviction attorneys. Bethany is excited to be working alongside talented law professionals and is looking forward to developing relationships with area apartment managers to better navigate landlord-tenant law.
Bethany is a member of the Alabama Association of Paralegals, which offers continuing education and networking opportunities for paralegals. In her free time, she volunteers with a local animal rescue organization, Krewe de Rescue.
